Soma / Pneuma Released

I am pleased to share the latest track to release in my ongoing launch of new orchestral works. This piece, Soma/Pneuma, is a study in the contrast between how we represent language, and what it means. The representation of language encodes ancient Biblical texts into the fabric of the rhythmic backdrop. Both the phrase lengths and the rhythms are literal transcriptions of these texts.  You will hear how phrase lengths adjust and vary and this is in direct correspondence to the underlying words themselves.  However, the piece does not simply make a literal recitation of the text of scripture.  Above the rhythmic encoding the music itself is a meditation and amplification of the meaning of the text itself.  The piece juxtaposes the representation of language with its meaning. That is why I called it Soma / Pneuma (from Gk. - Body/Soul). You can hear it on Spotify or Apple Music here: https://unitedmasters.com/m/somapneuma
