Description: A solo violin voice rises from silence and proceeds to charm, cajole, and manipulate the orchestra as though the orchestra were an audience. The waltz is the vehicle; what it carries is a portrait of the performer who feeds upon the laughter of others, and what that sustained performance costs. The violin is never quite sincere and never quite a lie.
